CARDIOCARE at 14th FORTH Scientific Retreat

Nov 2, 2024

Grigorios Kalliatakis, FORTH, recently showcased the CARDIOCARE groundbreaking research at the 14th FORTH Scientific Retreat, held from October 11-13, 2024, in Ancient Olympia, Greece. The poster, titled “Deep Learning-based Automated Assessment of Reduced Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction by Echocardiography,” highlighted the potential of Artificial Intelligence to revolutionize the field of cardiology, particularly in the assessment of heart function via echocardiography.

Reduced Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction (LVEF) is a key indicator of heart health, with reductions often signaling the onset or progression of heart failure. Traditional assessment of LVEF relies heavily on manual analysis by experienced cardiologists, which can be both time-consuming and subjective. CARDIOCARE’s research aims to change this paradigm by employing deep learning models to perform automated, accurate, and efficient assessments of LVEF directly from echocardiographic data.

Attendees showed significant interest in CARDIOCARE’s work, recognizing its potential to address key challenges in cardiology. As healthcare systems worldwide face increasing demand for cardiovascular services, the CARDIOCARE deep learning model for automated LVEF assessment stands out as an innovative solution with the potential to make cardiac diagnostics faster, more accurate, and more accessible. The success of the presentation at the FORTH Scientific Retreat signals a strong interest in and support for the future of AI-enhanced cardiology.
