CARDIOCARE at CARDIO2026

Jun 5, 2026

At the CARDIO2026 Congress held in Athens on 18–19 May, the CARDIOCARE project made a strong scientific contribution with a dedicated session showcasing its latest advances in cardio-oncology and patient-centered risk prediction.

The special session, titled “From clinical need to AI-Driven risk stratification. The CARDIOCARE approach to cardiotoxicity and quality of life”, brought together clinicians, engineers, and researchers to highlight how artificial intelligence and digital health can transform the way cardiotoxicity is predicted and managed, with a strong emphasis on quality of life.

The session was chaired by Dorothea Tsekoura, Aretaieio University Hospital, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and Dimitrios I. Fotiadis, University of Ioannina.

Throughout the session, CARDIOCARE presented a comprehensive pipeline of AI-enabled solutions addressing key unmet clinical needs in cardio-oncology. The presentations included:

  • Clinical need addressed by the CARDIOCARE project
    Vasilina Themelidou, Aretaieion Hospital, Greece
  • Non-imaging risk stratification models for cardiotoxicity and quality of life
Dr. Aggeliki Botoni, University of Ioannina, Greece
  • Sensor-based risk stratification models for quality of life
Dr. Giannis Kyprakis, Hellenic Mediterranean University, Greece

The session highlighted CARDIOCARE’s overarching vision: moving from reactive care to proactive, data-driven decision support systems that enhance both clinical outcomes and patients’ quality of life.

The strong engagement and interdisciplinary dialogue underscored the growing role of AI-based approaches in cardio-oncology and reinforced CARDIOCARE’s position at the forefront of innovation in this rapidly evolving field.
